Midnight

She walks the hills at midnight,

Under the light of the moon.

Wishing the night could last forever,

Knowing the dawn will break soon.

Not sure of where she’s going,

Unable to go home,

She wanders the hills at midnight

Uncertain and alone.

She stops to rest for a moment,

Knowing her time is fleeting.

She sinks to her knees on the hillside

Trying to slow her heart’s beating.

She turns her thoughts to yesterday,

Wishing to turn back the clock.

Yesterday life was easier,

The secret not yet unlocked.

She thinks of her happy childhood,

She thinks of all she has lost.

She knows she can never return here,

She has counted up the cost.

She knows the path she must take now,

No matter how hard it may be.

Her carefree life has ended.

Her future is hard to see.

Rising again, she continues,

Knowing the time is here.

The time to leave her old life behind,

Time to swallow her fear.

She walks the hills at midnight,

Under the light of the moon.

Leaving her life behind her,

The time has come far too soon.
